Die Verwendung der Nahinfrarotspektroskopie (NIRS) zur Messung der Gewebesättigung wurde bereits in den 1970er Jahren beschrieben. Erst 1985 konnte diese Technologie dann zur Messung der Sauerstoffsättigung im Hirngewebe eingesetzt werden und wurde in der Folge kommerziell verfügbar [1]. Im weiteren Verlauf wurde eine Vielzahl an NIRS-Geräten entwickelt, die sich in technischen Details unterscheiden. So werden zwischen 2 und 4 unterschiedliche Wellenlängenbereiche eingesetzt, um die zerebrale Sauerstoffsättigung (SO2) zu überwachen, ohne dass eine Überlegenheit einzelner Messverfahren nachweisbar wäre. Mithilfe der NIRS kann durch die unterschiedliche Absorption von Licht im nahinfraroten Wellenlängenbereich die zerebrale SO2 im überwiegend venösen Blut abgeschätzt werden. Obwohl zur Differenzierung von oberflächlichem Gewebe (z. B. Haut/Kalotte) und Hirngewebe 2 Detektoren (Optoden) verwendet werden (Subtraktionsverfahren), stellt die Beeinflussung des Messwerts durch nichtzerebrales Gewebe immer noch eine Limitation dar. …
