Zusammenfassung

Das Reizdarmsyndrom hatte im klinischen Alltag lange Zeit den Ruf einer Somatisierungsstörung, heute kennt man die organischen Ursachen. Verschiedene pathophysiologische Vorgänge wirken zusammen. Obwohl typische laborchemische oder strukturelle Veränderungen fehlen, gelingt die schwierige Diagnose immer häufiger. Dabei hilft eine 2011 erschienene S3-Leitlinie, die auch eine neue Definition des Syndroms enthält.
