Wie gezieltes Training die Therapie unterstützen kann

Zusammenfassung

Sport und körperliche Aktivität sind wirksame Maßnahmen der Gesundheitsförderung. Ihre Rolle bei Krebspatienten wurde aber lange Zeit unterschätzt. Bei vielen Krebsarten erhöhen Bewegungsmangel, Adipositas und Fehlernährung das Erkrankungsrisiko und beeinflussen den Krankheitsverlauf. Umgekehrt verbessert regelmäßige körperliche Aktivität bei Krebspatienten nicht nur die körperliche Leistungsfähigkeit, sie reduziert auch die Nebenwirkungen der Therapie, hellt die Stimmung auf und steigert die Lebensqualität. Möglicherweise kann für bestimmte Krebserkrankungen sogar die tumorspezifische Sterblichkeit verringert werden. Die früher empfohlene Schonung gilt heute als problematisch. Stattdessen wird körperliche Aktivität in allen Phasen einer Krebserkrankung empfohlen, abhängig von der individuellen Belastbarkeit. Gezieltes Training kann die physische und psychische Situation der Patienten deutlich verbessern.
