Zusammenfassung

Die Demenz verursacht einen progressiven Verlust an funktionellen und kognitiven Fähigkeiten und führt zu Abhängigkeit und Pflegebedürftigkeit. Da für die Mehrzahl der Demenzsyndrome noch keine Heilung möglich ist, zielt die Behandlung auf eine Verzögerung des Krankheitsverlaufes mit möglichst langem Erhalt von Hirnleistung, Selbstständigkeit und Lebensqualität. Dabei kommt dem Thema Ernährung eine wichtige Rolle zu.
