The direction of innovation in surgery is moving toward data-centric, information-based systems that provide an augmented environment that enrich the surgeon’s understanding of operative anatomy [

5]. Robotic systems provide an augmented hand, while navigation provides an augmented eye [
6]. Together, these modalities enhance the surgeon’s perception of complex surgical fields with the theoretical benefit of improving resection quality and minimizing operative morbidity. The concept of using automation in surgery in which robotic precision is coupled with augmented reality ushers a new ear of cybernetic surgery, and there is already promising early work in this field [
