Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. Since the 1990s, time-dependent intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) has been included in the standard of care for acute ischemic strokes, later limited to use only in strokes due to large vessel occlusion (AIS-LVO).
