Since its establishment in 1989, the National Cancer Database (NCDB) has become widely used in cancer research.1 A hospital-based clinical cancer registry that collects data from more than 1500 hospitals in the United States, the NCDB captures more than 70% of newly diagnosed cancers. Nearly 1500 PubMed indexed publications have used it to explore the entire continuum of cancer care; this exponential use of the NCDB is only expected to grow.2 With this expansion, and the growth in the use of national databases generally, the need for uniform reporting of these studies is crucial to ensure reproducibility.3 …
