Vascular access for managing major bleeding in children can be challenging. It is often difficult to obtain sufficient vascular access to be prepared for or manage massive hemorrhage and subsequent resuscitation. 1, 2 Even when using real-time ultrasound guidance, placement of large-bore catheters needed for resuscitation can be problematic. In cases where small-bore access can be obtained, a Seldinger technique can be used to upsize the catheter.
