Several classifications of mandibular defects after mandibulectomy have been proposed, but no classification is universally accepted [1, 2]. Many classifications of mandibular defects after mandibulectomy have several problems. The most widely cited classification is the HCL classification by Jewer et al. [3], but it did not distinguish between defect of only the mandibular lateral body and defect from the subcondylar region to the midline [1]. The classification by Urken et al. [4] is purely descriptive and very complex, and some other classifications are not commonly cited [1]. Because most classifications of the mandibular defect are based on type or class, each classification must be remembered. As a simple and intuitive classification of mandibular defects, Hashikawa et al. [5] reported CAT classification. However, this classification is not widely known worldwide because of its proposal in Japanese article, and further improvement is required.
