A Path Less Traveled: Metastatic Esophageal Carcinoma from a Primary Ovarian Malignancy

The esophagus is a rare site of cancer metastasis. It is involved in approximately only 1% of metastatic primary malignancies, of which the breast and lungs are the most common sites of primary tumor [1]. Case reports have documented other, more obscure primary tumor sites, including the stomach, larynx, and thyroid [1]. Herein, we present a rare case of ovarian carcinoma metastatic to the esophagus; intriguingly, the metastasis itself was homomorphic to the primary lesion, i.e., appeared grossly ovoid. To our knowledge, only one case in the USA and very few worldwide have reported the ovary as a primary site of carcinoma metastatic to the esophagus [1‐3].
