Years ago, while I was driving from the former CSSR across the mountainous border area, on the street of a small town, Polanica Zdrój, I noticed a patient demonstrating a perfect Tagliacozzi arm flap for his nasal reconstruction. Upon his recommendation, I visited not a unit nor a department for plastic surgery, but an entire hospital devoted to our specialty. It received the difficult problem-cases from all over Poland. This hospital’s chief now presents us with an atlas of representative cases, thoroughly color-illustrated, with long-term follow up. But, is this just another atlas of plastic surgery? Realizing the diversity of our special surgical field, the experienced reader will especially enjoy seeing how complicated problems have been dealt with and solved. This, by the use of, at one time, the most modern but now “time honored” methods, reflected the enormous wisdom and experience of the author. …
