A 5-year-old, previously healthy girl presented to our emergency department (ED) with a complaint of colicky left flank and upper quadrant abdominal pain. She denied fever, dysuria, and gross hematuria. Five days prior to presentation to our ED, she had been diagnosed with a urinary tract infection for new-onset abdominal pain and mild fatigue at another hospital. At that time, physical examination, by report, was normal, and she was subsequently released home with medications. Due to persistent abdominal pain and decreased urine output, 1 day prior to presentation at our ED she was referred to our hospital. She had no past medical history of note and was not on any long-term medication, nor did she have any history of kidney disease. The family history was also unremarkable, and consanguinity was not present between her parents. …
