Low-risk cervical cancers (up to FIGO 2018 IB1 < 2 cm with no lymph vascular space invasion and no diseased nodes) are not a new entity.
1 It has been shown that these early cancers are curable with a less radical approach with a nearly 100% long-term survival, particularly in patients with clear margins on cone biopsy specimens. Furthermore, since the publication of the LACC trial, surgical approach has changed, considering laparotomy the standard treatment for patients with early-stage cervical cancer.
2 However minimally invasive surgery could be considered oncologically safe performing protective maneuvers, such as vaginal closure or avoiding uterine manipulator.
