Zusammenfassung

Das akute Lungenversagen („acute respiratory distress syndrome“, ARDS) ist auch nach Jahren intensiver Forschungsbemühungen mit einer hohen Letalität assoziiert. Epidemiologisch stellt das ARDS eine der zentralen Herausforderungen der modernen Intensivtherapie dar. Die multifaktorielle Ätiologie des ARDS erschwert die eindeutige Identifikation und Evaluation neuer Therapieformen. Die differenzierte Lungenunterstützung mithilfe der lungenprotektiven Beatmungstherapie und adjunktive Therapiemaßnahmen, wie z. B. die Lagerungstherapie oder der gezielte Einsatz extrakorporaler Lungenunterstützung, sind in Abhängigkeit vom Schweregrad der Erkrankung von besonderer Relevanz. Um eine individualisierte und bedarfsadaptierte Therapie zu gewährleisten, profitieren ARDS-Patienten von der Behandlung in spezialisierten Zentren.
