To the Editor: Poisoning is a common cause of mortality and morbidity in children [1]. Young children are at risk of unintentional poisoning because of their curious disposition and the careless placement of medications by adults. In adolescents, intentional poisoning occurs often as a result of suicidal attempts. Occasionally, neonates are intoxicated but the mechanism through which this happens is completely different. We report 2 anonymized cases of neonatal ethanol exposure via breastfeeding and illustrate the characteristic abdominal manifestations masquerading infectious and congenital surgical abdominal conditions of this potentially avoidable intoxication in neonates. …
