Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are subepithelial tumors most commonly seen in the stomach. However, although rare, GISTs occurring in the small intestine are associated with worse patient outcomes owing to higher complication rates. With the growing feasibility to treat GISTs endoscopically (if < 5 cm), endoscopic resection provides better outcomes, with less risks, than surgical enucleation. However, in anatomically difficult cases, rapid recognition of the challenges in diagnosis means escalating to surgical options if not detected by an esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). Herein, we discuss a GIST located in the duodenum ultimately discovered secondary to capsule endoscopy, thus illustrating a novel alternative approach to diagnosing this tumor. …
