An Update on Female Urethral Stricture Disease

Abstract

Purpose of Review

To provide an overview of female urethral stricture disease and updates on surgical outcomes.

Recent Findings

In a large retrospective case series, women reported significant improvements in urinary symptoms and quality of life following treatment of their urethral stricture. Both vaginal flap and buccal mucosal graft urethroplasty have higher short- and long-term success rates than urethral dilation.

Summary

Female urethral stricture disease is rare and surgical reconstruction has the highest likelihood of long-term success. Due to the complexity of reconstruction, referral to a reconstructive trained urologist should be considered.

Subkutanes Pembrolizumab als Therapiealternative?

Pembrolizumab ist unter anderem beim nichtkleinzelligen Bronchialkarzinom (NSCLC) in intravenöser Form zugelassen. Eine subkutane Gabe (s.c.) könnte die Therapie angenehmer und effizienter gestalten. In einer Phase-3-Studie wurde nun untersucht, ob die s.c. Injektion in Kombination mit Chemotherapie der i.v. Therapie bei NSCLC-Erkrankten unterlegen ist.

Wie häufig entwickeln Betroffene mit einem Melanom eine weitere primäre Krebserkrankung?

Menschen, die an einem malignen Melanom erkrankt sind, machen sich häufig Sorgen über das Risiko, im weiteren Verlauf erneut an Krebs zu erkranken. Eine australische Studie zeigt, dass am häufigsten ein weiteres Melanom diagnostiziert wird – gefolgt von Prostata-, Brust- und Darmkrebs.

Frauen mit HPV-Läsionen: Auch die Partner untersuchen!

Frauen, die eine durch humane Papillomviren (HPV) verursachte hochgradige zervikale intraepitheliale Neoplasie aufweisen, sollten auch ihre Männer zum Screening schicken. Denn deren Risiko für hochgradige penile HPV-Läsionen ist deutlich erhöht.
