Zu den wesentlichen postoperativen Komplikationen in der Unfallchirurgie gehören die venöse Thromboembolie, das Implantatversagen, die Nachblutung, das postoperative Hämatom und Serom, kardiopulmonale Komplikationen, die postoperative Infektion und die Sepsis. Stellt man aus unfallchirurgischer Sicht jedoch die Frage, für welche Komplikationen der Chirurg zur Vermeidung am meisten beitragen kann, bei welchen Komplikationen heute das größte Verbesserungspotenzial besteht, bei welchen Komplikationen die Patienten die schwerste Last tragen, scheint die postoperative Infektion („surgical site infection“, SSI) die relevanteste Komplikation zu sein. …
