Abstract

Transplantation of fresh osteochondral allografts (OCA) can be used in a wide variety of different injuries and joint diseases as well as a salvage procedure after primary failed cartilage repair. Large and deep osteochondral defects can be completely reconstructed in a one-stage procedure without having the issue of donor site morbidity. For the patient, OCA transplantation provides reliable symptomatic pain relief and lasting functional improvements with the possibility of delaying or eliminating the need for arthroplasty.
