Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine malignancy. It occurs in relatively young (middle-aged) individuals but is associated with long survival.1 Therefore, the increased risk of various kinds of secondary cancer might be an important health problem for such patients and physicians. Previous large cohort studies have reported an increased incidence of radiation-related cancers, such as leukemia and other myeloid neoplasms, in patients with thyroid cancer.2,3 In addition to radiation-related cancers, there is an increased risk of malignancies in various organs among survivors of thyroid cancer.4 In some studies, a link between excess fat and the incidence of thyroid cancer and other cancers has been identified. Therefore, the possibility of a link between lipid metabolic disease and the occurrence of secondary cancer in these patients can be considered.5 However, the relationship between the risk of secondary cancers and excess adiposity in thyroid cancer is unknown. …
