Our study addresses whether trisegmentectomy or lingulectomy can provide oncological outcomes equivalent to lobectomy in patients with clinical stage I left upper lobe non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with tumors measuring 2–4 cm. Recent findings from two clinical trials, JCOG0802 and CALGB 140503, have increased interest in sublobar resections for smaller tumors.
1,2 The efficacy of segmentectomy for 2–4 cm tumors, however, remains unexplored, which is why our study focused on this subset. Given that the left upper lobe consists of segments anatomically equivalent to the right upper and middle lobes, we aimed to explore whether trisegmentectomy/lingulectomy might suffice for tumors in the apex or lingular region. …
