Post-prostatectomy urinary incontinence (PPI) is one of the most serious complications associated with radical prostatectomy (RP) that significantly impacts the patient’s quality of life, second only to oncological outcomes. Due to modified surgical techniques and postoperative managements, the rate of PPI has been decreasing in recent years. The majority of PPI cases are transient, with continence recovery expected within the first year post-surgery, and further improvements are possible up to 2 years afterward. However, PPI may present with persistent urinary incontinence in certain patients. Unfortunately, the identification of such patients before surgery is often difficult. Over the past few decades, most urologists are still confused about when and what kind of intervention is appropriate during the perioperative and postoperative follow-up periods. …
