Since the introduction and mastery of laparoscopic and thoracoscopic techniques in the field of surgery, a growing trend toward performing major resections using these minimally invasive approaches has been noted in the past two or three decades. Esophagectomy is considered one of the operations that was extensively studied in regard to its outcomes using both open and minimally invasive techniques.
