Although gastric cancer is still one of the most common malignant diseases in eastern Asia, there are many discrepancies in optimal perioperative management, even between high-volume centers in Korea and Japan,
1 and a consensus is yet to be made. Application of the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program for gastrectomy in gastric cancer shows shorter hospital stay, faster bowel function recovery, and less cost.

3 The ERAS protocol often consists of having short fasting time, early oral feeding, immediate mobilization, having no surgical drains or Levin tubes, and active pain control. However, there is still a lack of level I evidence for its application in clinical practice. A nationwide survey in 2014 by the Korean Gastric Cancer Association showed that the most common operation for tumor in the distal two-thirds of the stomach was totally laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (TLDG).
