Goblet cell carcinoid (GCC) tumors of the appendix are rare mucinous neoplasms staged according to the system for adenocarcinomas (AJCC, 8th edition) with limited data surrounding optimal treatment regimens.
1 The usual prognostic tools of TNM stage or Ki-67 have not proven as useful in the setting of appendiceal GCC. However, the histologic classification system first introduced by Tang et al.
2 has correlated with survival outcomes, dividing cases into group A (typical GCC), group B (adenocarcinoma ex GCC, signet ring cell type), and group C (adenocarcinoma ex GCC, poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma type).
