Ovarian pseudomyxoma peritonei (OPMP) is an extremely rare disease that requires excluding other origins using a comprehensive workup and a full histopathological examination of the appendix.
1 OPMP are mostly of teratomatous appendiceal epithelial origin, but a few cases may originate from primary ovarian mucinous neoplasms.
2 Classifications are thus confusing since pathologists may use the 5th digestive system WHO classification [low-grade (grade 1), high-grade (grades 2–3)],
3 and/or the 5th female genital tract WHO classification (mucinous cystadenoma, borderline tumor, carcinoma).
4 Although OPMP are usually treated as appendiceal pseudomyxoma peritonei (APMP), using cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), there is no well-defined therapeutic guideline. …
