Rakesh Kumar is a distinguished professor and holds a National Chair in Cancer Research at the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, India, while holding a visiting professorship at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and an adjunct professorship at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Kumar is a cancer scientist with about 35 years of research experience in phenotypic signaling and gene expression during the process of cancer development and progression. Dr. Kumar has served as a faculty member at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Penn State University Medical Center, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and George Washington University before joining in his current position in July 2017. Dr. Kumar had held full professorships with tenure from September 1998 through 2017. During this time, he also held endowed distinguished professorships or chair positions as well as served as a Department Chair and Deputy Chair. Dr. Kumar’ has made advances in the areas of growth factor receptor signaling and signal-dependent cytoskeleton and chromatin remodeling in women’s cancer. He has edited or co-edited eight books or thematic volumes, including this CMR Issue, in the areas of cancer biology, therapeutics, or signaling. Dr. Kumar has severed on the editorial board of numerous leading cancer research journals for about two decades, including Cancer Research where he was a Senior Editor for a decade, and currently serving on the editorial boards of several journals. Dr. Kumar has been actively contributed to the peer-review process for National and International funding agencies over about 25 years, including the National Institute of Health, Department of Defense and Veteran Administration of the United States, and foreign governmental funding agencies. Over the last three decades, Dr. Kumar’s research laboratory has trained over 65 postdoctoral fellows, physician scientists, and graduate students.
