Zusammenfassung

Wenngleich Simulation zum Zweck der medizinischen Ausbildung eine jahrhundertelange Tradition hat, liegen die Wurzeln der Patientensimulation, wie wir sie heute verstehen, in der zweiten Hälfte des vergangenen Jahrhunderts. Rasante Fortschritte in der Computertechnologie sowie ein Wandel in der pädagogischen Konzeption des klinischen Lehrer-Schüler-Verhältnisses waren die beiden wichtigsten Rahmenbedingungen, unter denen sich Patientensimulation im Laufe der vergangenen 2 Jahrzehnte zu einem weltweit eingesetzten pädagogischen Werkzeug entwickeln konnte. Das vorliegende Kapitel gibt einen knappen Überblick sowohl über die historischen Wurzeln der Simulation als auch über die Entwicklung der verschiedenen Patientensimulatoren, die letztlich zur kommerziellen Entwicklung der heute verfügbaren Simulationsmodelle geführt hat.
