With interest we read the proof of principle study regarding the measurement of C-reactive protein and procalcitonin after esophagectomy by Hoeboer et al., published in the
Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery 1. The project group assessed levels of C-reactive protein, procalcitonin and leukocytes after esophagectomy and compared levels between patients with a complicated and uncomplicated postoperative course, with levels being higher in patients with complications. …
