To the Editor: We would like to comment on the article entitled “Carotid intima-media thickness and metabolic complications in children with HIV on antiretroviral therapy: a cross-sectional study” published in IJP [
1]. A limited sample size, and absence of a thorough analysis and justification for the connections discovered could all be considered weaknesses of the study. Furthermore, confounding variables that were overlooked or under adjusted for in the analysis, could exist. Larger, longer-term studies would be helpful in the future to further our understanding of the connection between carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) and other parameters in HIV-positive children. Additionally, more investigations and analysis of potential confounding variables needs to be done. Research should also be done on methods and treatments to control and stop the emergence of cardiovascular risk factors in kids living with HIV. …
