Zusammenfassung

Die Prävalenz von Krebserkrankungen in Deutschland ist steigend. Das Skelettsystem stellt die dritthäufigste Lokalisation für Metastasen dar. Nahezu zwei Drittel der Metastasen sind im Bereich der Wirbelsäule zu finden. Aufgrund längerer Überlebenszeiten von Tumorpatienten im metastasierten Stadium ist mit einer steigenden Anzahl von Patienten mit Knochenmetastasen zu rechnen. Die Behandlung von Patienten mit ossären Metastasen ist heute fester Bestandteil der orthopädisch-unfallchirurgischen Praxis. Der vorliegende Beitrag vermittelt die Grundlagen der Diagnostik, bietet Abschätzungshilfen zur Prognose sowie zur Frakturgefahr und diskutiert die verschiedenen chirurgischen Behandlungsverfahren bei Skelettmetastasen mit ihren Vor- und Nachteilen.
