Abstract
Objective
To report a clinical case involving the rehabilitation of lost alveolar bone volume through an autogenous root block graft, followed by the placement of an osseointegrated dental implant and subsequent prosthetic rehabilitation.
Case presentation
A patient with clinical absence of region of the absence of lower left first molar and a deficiency in the alveolar ridge in that region received an autogenous root graft, using upper left third molar as the donor source. After a postoperative period of 6 months, a surgical reopening was performed for implant placement. Clinical and tomographic assessments revealed significant gains in ridge size, with the graft displaying stability, allowing for implant installation with appropriate primary stability.
Conclusions
Autogenous dental root grafts represent a potential alternative for restoring the alveolar ridge in patients who require rehabilitation prior to dental implant placement. Compared to other available techniques, the root graft offers the advantage of lower morbidity and reduced costs.
