Chord mu and chord alpha as postoperative predictors in multifocal intraocular lens implantation”, by Montrimas et al. This excellent review article describes the role of chord mu, often equated with angle kappa, and chord alpha, as predictors of multifocal intraocular lens (MIOL) implantation outcomes [
1]. While the paper attempts to synthesize the current knowledge on angle kappa, and mentions a better predictability and stability of chord alpha, it takes a firm stance that chord mu (angle kappa) has a negative impact on MIOL outcomes and even suggests surgeons should exercise caution when values exceed 0.5–0.6 mm. Although Montrimas et al. acknowledge the need for further research to draw conclusive evidence, we believe their conclusions on angle kappa (chord mu) are based on incomplete information. …
