Eminovic et al. [
1] have written an interesting paper on the relationship between poor outcomes after total hip arthroplasty (THA) with pre-operative malnutrition. It is a typical retrospective cohort study. These results underline the higher post-operative complication rate and importance of pre-operative nutritional assessment for patients undergoing elective total hip arthroplasty. Therefore, serum albumin and total lymphocyte count (TLC) are valuable clinical markers of protein energy malnutrition (PEM) and the post-operative outcome.
