Early abandonment of breastfeeding is a major problem in Western societies, despite the fact that breastfeeding is recognized worldwide as the gold standard of infant nutrition. The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months and partial breastfeeding up to the age of 2 and beyond. Supporting and encouraging breastfeeding are an investment in public health, with positive long-term benefits for society. Breastfeeding after bariatric surgery should be recommended, as should surveillance and micronutrient supplementation [
