Healthy live kidney donors lose approximately 50% of their nephron mass with nephrectomy [
1]. Within the first post-donation year, the remaining kidney partially compensates for this loss by means of hyperfiltration, a homeostatic mechanism by which the remnant functional units of the kidney increase in volume and capacity in an attempt to match demand [
