The outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) has led to unprecedented challenges in health care systems worldwide. It was first described in Wuhan, China, in December 2019 and rapidly spread across the world. The Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University publishes international case numbers daily [
1]. At the time of writing, many countries were in an exponential phase of spread, so numbers were expected to steeply rise further in the next weeks to months [

3]. There is evidence that substantial undocumented infection and community transmission facilitate the rapid dissemination of the novel coronavirus [
