Liver resection and transplantation are the best curative options for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma [1]. With advances in surgical techniques and perioperative management, patients with hepatocellular carcinoma may undergo more extensive surgery than has been offered in the past. Yet, post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) remains an important complication and can lead to significant morbidity and mortality [2]. Selection of appropriate operative candidates is, therefore, of utmost importance to minimize risks for PHLF. …
