Zusammenfassung

Der vorliegende Übersichtsartikel befasst sich mit den in den vergangenen Jahren veröffentlichten kardiovaskulären Endpunktstudien und ihren Konsequenzen für die Diabetestherapie. In den letzten Jahren wurden verschiedene kardiovaskuläre Outcomestudien veröffentlicht, die zeigten, dass bei Patienten mit fortgeschrittener Erkrankungsdauer und klinisch manifester koronarer Herzerkrankung eine stringente Blutzuckerspiegelsenkung nur bedingt zu einer Reduktion kardiovaskulärer Ereignisse führt. Darüber hinaus wurde in verschiedenen Sicherheitsstudien die kardiovaskuläre Sicherheit unterschiedlicher Substanzen wie z. B. DPP-4-Inhibitoren (DPP: Dipeptidylpeptidase) nachgewiesen. Gleichzeitig jedoch wurde für einige Präparate, z. B. für SGLT-2-Inhibitoren (SGLT‑2: „sodium dependent glucose transporter 2“) oder bestimmte GLP-1-Analoga (GLP-1: „glucagon-like peptide 1“), eine Reduktion kardiovaskulärer Ereignisse bei Patienten mit Diabetes und hohem kardiovaskulärem Risiko gefunden, sodass diese Wirkstoffe zunehmend Eingang in die Leitlinie der Diabetestherapie finden. In der vorliegenden Übersichtsarbeit werden die aktuelle Datenlage zusammengefasst und die klinischen Konsequenzen aus diesen Ergebnissen illustriert.
