Endoscopic intraductal lithotripsy of biliary stones using thulium laser: preliminary results of a single-center experience

Biliary lithiasis may require multiple interventions especially in the case of large and hard stones, blocked into the biliary tree [1]. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with sphincterotomy and balloon or basket-assisted extraction is the first-line treatment, but it may fail in the case of difficult biliary stones [1]. In these cases, laparoscopic surgical stone removal has been described, although complication rates are high [2]. An alternative, less invasive approach is the balloon-assisted mechanical removal of stones through percutaneous transhepatic access, but it has still a high complication rate and often requires multiple sessions for treatment [3]. …Anzeige
