Die Menopause ist als eine 12-monatige Amenorrhö definiert, die anderwärtig nicht zu erklären ist und somit das Ende der Fortpflanzungsfähigkeit einer Frau bedeutet [1]. Mit Beginn der Menopause ändern sich die Hormonspiegel drastisch. Während der Östrogenspiegel weitgehend sinkt, steigen die Spiegel des follikelstimulierenden Hormons (FSH) und des luteinisierenden Hormons (LH). Die alternden Eierstöcke reagieren weniger sensibel auf FSH und LH, was zu weniger Eisprüngen und einer Abnahme der zirkulierenden Mengen an Progesteron und Östrogenen im Körper führt. Vor allem der erniedrigte Östrogenspiegel führt dann zu einer Amenorrhö, da das Endometrium nicht mehr aufgebaut werden kann [2]. Insbesondere in der frühen und späten menopausalen Transition kann diese dramatische Hormonumstellung bei bis zu 4 von 5 Frauen zu

vasomotorischen und vulvovaginalen atrophischen Symptomen (das heißt vaginale Atrophie, vaginale Trockenheit),
Stimmungsstörungen,
Depressionen,
sexueller Dysfunktion und
Schlaflosigkeit

führen [3]. Zudem kann die Perimenopause auch mit einer Verschlechterung der Lebensqualität verbunden sein [4]. …
