Verordnungsprofil Die wichtigsten Gruppen der Sexualhormone sind Östrogenpräparate und Kontrazeptiva. Danach folgen mit weitem Abstand Gestagene. Die Verordnungen aller Östrogenpräparate zur Hormontherapie in der Postmenopause (systemische und topische Präparate) sind seit 1999 stark zurückgegangen. Seit 2018 ist erstmals ein leichter Anstieg zu verzeichnen insbesondere bei Östrogenmonopräparaten. Damit wird auch 2019 der Effekt der Leitlinienempfehlungen zur postmenopausalen Hormontherapie mit weiterhin stabilen Verordnungszahlen sichtbar. Nach langjähriger Abnahme zeigten auch die Verordnungen der hormonalen Kontrazeptiva 2019 wieder eine deutliche Zunahme, insbesondere bei den Gestagenmonopräparaten und den vaginalen Kontrazeptiva. Testosteronverordnungen nehmen dagegen wie schon in den letzten Jahren weiter gering zu.

Bewertung Die Verordnungen zur postmenopausalen Hormontherapie reflektieren eine gute Beachtung der Indikationsstellung basierend auf einer sorgfältigen Nutzen-Risiko-Bewertung, die leitlinienbasiert erfolgt. Hormonersatztherapie soll in erster Linie bei klimakterischen Ausfallerscheinungen (z. B. vasomotorische und urogenitale Symptome) eingesetzt werden. Die überarbeitete deutsche S3-Leitlinie wurde 2020 veröffentlicht.
