Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a chronic disorder of orthostatic intolerance, defined as an excessive and sustained increase in heart rate (HR) ≥ 30 bpm within 10 min of standing or head-up tilt (HUT), in the absence of orthostatic hypotension [1]. POTS patients experience frequent, chronic (≥ 3 months), and debilitating symptoms, including light-headedness, cognitive impairment, and fatigue. [1]. Upon standing, many patients can experience mild hyperventilation in the form of hyperpnea [2, 3]. As a result, patients exhale greater amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) resulting in low arterial CO2 (hypocapnia) [2]. …
