Zusammenfassung

Der vorliegende Artikel fasst die vorhandene wissenschaftliche Evidenz zur Wirksamkeit und physiologischen Plausibilität von Akupunktur zusammen. Klinische Wirknachweise in Form von Studien und Meta-Analysen liegen für einige Indikationen vor, so etwa für postoperative Übelkeit und Erbrechen, für Rückenschmerz, Kopfschmerzen, Schmerzen bei Kniegelenksarthrose, Schulterschmerzen sowie für postoperative Schmerzen. Die physiologischen Wirkungen der Akupunktur und die zugrundeliegenden Mechanismen sind vielfältig. Diese umfassen periphere Vorgänge, spinale Prozesse und supraspinale/zerebrale Mechanismen. Beachtet werden müssen Limitationen der Ergebnisse und die Rolle des Kontexts und des Ablaufs der Akupunktur.
