Schmerz und Demenz — eine diagnostische Herausforderung

Zusammenfassung

Immer wieder wird publiziert, dass Menschen, die unter einer demenziellen Erkrankung leiden, signifikant weniger Analgetika erhalten als solche, die keine kognitive Einschränkung aufweisen — bei gleichem zugrunde liegenden schmerzhaften Krankheitsbild. Schmerzen werden jedoch von Betroffenen mit oder ohne Demenz gleich empfunden, die Schmerztoleranzschwelle scheint dagegen bei Demenzkranken verschoben. Schmerzerkennung und Schmerzassessment stellen daher gerade in ihrer erschwerten Variante im Rahmen einer Demenz eine enorme diagnostische Herausforderung dar.
