Zusammenfassung

Die interstitielle Zystitis/Blasenschmerzsyndrom (IC/BPS) ist als seltene Erkrankung eine häufig unterdiagnostizierte, vielfach auch erst nach Jahren adäquat behandelte Erkrankung der Harnblase. Aufgrund bisher ungeklärter Ätiopathogenese, variabler Symptomatik, fehlender Biomarker und eines schleichenden Beginns stellt sie als reine Ausschlussdiagnose eine besondere Herausforderung für Arzt und Patienten dar. Neben konventionellen und komplementärmedizinischen Therapien stehen insbesondere oral-medikamentöse, intravesikale bzw. transurethrale Verfahren als Behandlungsoptionen zur Verfügung. Interventionelle/operative Verfahren sollten aufgrund der Invasivität bzw. Unumkehrbarkeit dagegen nur nach genauer Abwägung bzw. als Ultima Ratio zum Einsatz kommen. Um eine passende, individuelle Therapie zu finden, kann daher eine Klassifizierung der Patienten entsprechend der Schwere und Art der Symptomatik von Vorteil sein.
