Herpes simplex virus (HSV) is a common cause of central nervous system (CNS) disease and the most common virus causing encephalitis in both the pediatric and adult populations [1]. HSV-1 is responsible for the vast majority of HSV encephalitis cases in adults [2]. In neonates, both HSV-1 and HSV-2 can cause encephalitis; however, HSV-2 is associated with particularly high morbidity and mortality [3]. …
