It is with interest that I have read the manuscript of Schlottmann F et al. on a “sutureless” duodeno-ileostomy [
1]. However, the operation they label is in fact laparoscopic, involves sutures, and cannot be called sutureless. It involves the passage of an upper magnet with flexible endoscopy under laparoscopic guidance, with organs retraction, and a lower magnet introduced through the bowel by an opening using an additional laparoscopic instrument that is closed with laparoscopic suturing. The company news mention “The GI Windows magnetic compression technology is the first to allow a digestive anastomosis to be performed with the use of a common flexible endoscope without opening the digestive tract, virtually eliminating the risk of postoperative bleeding and fistulas” is an obvious untruth, because they are not the first, it has full laparoscopy, and it has the risk of an immediate leak due to the enterotomy described (
