Introduction of e-cigarettes to the European and North American markets in 2006–2007 has triggered intense debate about their risks and benefits (Künzli 2014). On the one hand, advocates claim that e-cigarettes offer a viable alternative to combustible tobacco products that reduce harm (e.g., Flauhalt and Etter 2014). On the other, opponents fear potential harm from e-cigarette vapor, weakening of anti-tobacco social norms, and that e-cigarettes are a gateway to cigarette smoking in youth (e.g., Fairchild et al. 2014; McKee 2014). …
