It was a great pleasure to receive this paper by Dick Schultz, since for me it brought back many happy memories of spending time with Tord Skoog and later becoming President of the Tord Skoog Society. In the summer of 1968, I had gone to Stockholm to study cleft lip and palate and hand surgery but on many days during my six month stay there, I would get in my car and drive up to Uppsala to watch Prof. Skoog operate. These many visits were memorable for two things; firstly, Prof. Skoog’s manual dexterity and gentle operating technique. In addition to this was his warmth and kindness to me while I was there. Those indeed were wonderful days, and many times when I am operating on a primary cleft lip, I think back on Tord Skoog and how he influenced me by introducing me to new concepts in cleft lip and palate work, and he also showed me surgery of a very high technical standard that I have tried to emulate. …
